My story
After moving to Alaska from sunny (and really hot/humid) Thailand, I found myself absolutely miserable and depressed during the dark and cold winter months. I decided to try out cross country skiing as a way to stay active and ultimately fell in love with the sport that has taught me how to appreciate the long and snowy winters of Alaska. It was during the age of 13 when I skied for the first time by joining Anchorage Jr. Nordic. My first taste of racing was in high school when I joined the Dimond High School cross country ski team. It was during these years that I grew to enjoy skiing as I started to figure out how to skate ski without burning my shin muscles and classic ski without tripping on my poles.
While attending Washington State University where I studied marketing and economics, I did no cross country skiing at all. Despite no racing or even skiing I still continued to run and do the occasional interval workouts on a track, field, and ski erg (to show off to my crossFit friends).
I found myself back in Alaska once again after finishing college in 2020 derailed my plans of moving to a big city and climbing the corporate ladder due to the uncertain covid-era future of that time. This was when I decided to get back on skis once again as I looked for ways to make the most of being back in Alaska.
